  • Overview of ERBB2 molecular targets

ErbB2 is encoded by the ERBB2 gene in humans, also commonly referred to as the proto-oncogene human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) or CD340. HER2 consists of three parts: an extracellular ligand binding domain, a transmembrane domain, and an intracellular domain. These domains can interact with a large number of signaling molecules, reflecting ligand-dependent and ligand-independent activities. Amplification or overexpression of this oncogene plays an important role in the development of certain adverse types of breast cancer. In recent years, this protein has become an important target for biological therapy in nearly 30% of breast cancer patients.
