CD44 molecular target information overview
CD44 molecular target review
CD44 is a glycoprotein on the cell surface that participates in cell-cell interaction, cell adhesion and cell migration. CD44 is normally expressed in all blood cells (except platelets) and non-hematopoietic tissues, not in normal liver cells, but in bile duct epithelium. CD44 is abnormally expressed in multiple myeloma cells, most lymphomas, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and tumor mast cells. CD44 is mainly involved in the activation of lymphocytes, the binding of matrix molecules such as hyaluronic acid and laminin in the extracellular matrix, and mediating the binding of lymphocytes to tall columnar endothelial cells in post-capillary venules, allowing lymphocytes to pass through the vascular wall and return to the lymphoid tissue.
