  • Overview of SOS1 molecular targets

Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), also known as scatter factor, hepatocyte poi- topoietin A, and mammary growth factor, is a pleiotropic glycoprotein that regulates growth and migration of multiple cell types. HGF is secreted as a full-length inactive polypeptide and then cleaved by serine proteases into an active heterodimeric molecule of a 60 kDa N-terminal α chain and a 30 kDa C-terminal β chain. HGF is expressed by fibroblasts, adipocytes, smooth muscle cells, and endothelial cells. Serum levels of HGF are elevated in a variety of pathologies, including liver injury, acute renal failure, myocardial infarction, type 1 diabetes, obesity, and cancer, as well as in the joint fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Human SOS1 target molecular function (prediction)

Enables guanyl-nucleotide exchange factor activity. Predicted to be involved in axon guidance; cell surface receptor signaling pathway; and leukocyte migration. Predicted to act upstream of or within several processes, including animal organ development; regulation of T cell activation; and transmembrane receptor protein tyrosine kinase signaling pathway. Located in cytoplasm. Implicated in Noonan syndrome; Noonan syndrome 4; and gingival fibromatosis. Biomarker of cervical cancer and prostate cancer.
