  • Overview of ANGPT2 molecular targets

Angiopoietin-2 (ANG-2) is a secreted glycoprotein with a molecular weight of approximately 70 kDa. It plays a complex role in angiogenesis, inflammation, and vascular development. It is expressed in vascular endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells in highly angiogenic tissues, lung epithelial cells, differentiated myotubes, and neural progenitor cells. ANG-2 promotes the survival, proliferation, and migration of endothelial cells and promotes sprouting angiogenesis. It induces the loss of pericytes in the vascular wall and increases vascular permeability. ANG-2 is essential for the development of lymphatic vessels and the postnatal remodeling of lymphatic vessels and blood vessels. ANG-2 levels are elevated in patients with angiosarcoma, and studies have shown that ANG-2 is involved in the pathogenesis of septic shock. Serum ANG-2 expression is associated with the growth, angiogenesis, and overall survival of multiple myeloma and oral squamous cell carcinoma. Circulating ANG-2 is a marker of early cardiovascular disease in children on chronic dialysis, and Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpes virus causes rapid release of ANG-2 from endothelial cells.
