  • Overview of ANGPT1 molecular targets

Angiopoietin is part of the family of vascular growth factors that play a role in embryonic and neovascularization. Angiopoietin cytokines regulate microvascular permeability, vasodilation, and vasoconstriction by signaling to perivascular smooth muscle cells. Angiopoietin-1 (ANG-1) encodes a 498 amino acid polypeptide with a molecular weight of 57 kDa that can form dimers, trimers, and tetramers. It plays an important role in vascular maturation, adhesion, migration, and survival. Studies have shown that the ratio of ANG-2 to ANG-1 in serum is increased, indicating that abnormalities in the angiopoietin and tyrosine kinase pathways are common in blood-related diseases such as diabetes, malaria, sepsis, and pulmonary hypertension.
