  • CD28 molecular target review

CD28 is a 45 kDa homodimer expressed in most thymocytes and expressed at low levels in most peripheral CD4+ and CD8+ T cells and NK cells. It is also expressed in activated splenocytes, mast cells and thymocytes. CD28 is a co-stimulatory molecule of T cells and a ligand for CD80 (B7-1) and CD86 (B7-2). CD28 signaling can stimulate the expression of IL-2 and its receptors, as well as the cytotoxicity of CD3-activated T cells. The antibody can stimulate the proliferation of T cells and NK cells and promote their secretion of cytokines.

Human CD28 target molecule function (prediction)

Enables protease binding activity. Involved in several processes, including positive regulation of cytokine production; positive regulation of mitotic nuclear division; and regulatory T cell differentiation. Located in external side of plasma membrane. Part of protein complex involved in cell adhesion. Implicated in multiple sclerosis and type 1 diabetes mellitus. Biomarker of several diseases, including autoimmune disease (multiple); chronic fatigue syndrome; diabetic angiopathy; lung disease (multiple); and respiratory syncytial viral infectious disease.
