  • Overview of SERPINC1 molecular targets

Antithrombin-III is a member of the Serpin superfamily of serine protease inhibitors and is encoded by the SerpinC1 gene. Studies have found that Antithrombin-III is a marker for disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). This protein can inhibit thrombin and other activated serine protease coagulation systems and regulate the coagulation cascade. Antithrombin-III is the most important coagulation factor inhibitor. Even if there is a slight change in Antithrombin-III, it can significantly increase the risk of thromboembolism. Antithrombin-III can inhibit inflammation through dependent coagulation effects or independent coagulation effects. In addition, in addition to Antithrombin-III deficiency, Antithrombin-III and its encoding gene SerpinC1 may also be associated with many diseases (such as hypertension and kidney disease).

Predicted to enable several functions, including heparin binding activity; identical protein binding activity; and serine-type endopeptidase inhibitor activity. Predicted to be involved in negative regulation of endopeptidase activity and response to nutrient. Predicted to act upstream of or within blood coagulation and negative regulation of peptidase activity. Located in collagen-containing extracellular matrix. Is expressed in embryo; deficiency. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in antithrombin III deficiency; disseminated intravascular coagulation; intermediate coronary syndrome; thrombosis; and toxic shock syndrome. Orthologous to human SERPINC1 (serpin family C member 1).
