  • Overview of PDCD1 molecular targets

CD279, also known as programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1), is encoded by the PDCD1 gene. PD1 is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and belongs to the CD28 superfamily together with CD28, CTLA-4 and ICOS molecules. It is mainly expressed in activated CD4+T and CD8+T cells and B cells in monomeric form, and its ligands are B7-H1 and B7-DC. Studies have shown that enhancing the signal of PD-1 can downregulate the response of activated T and B cells in peripheral tissues, and play an important role in maintaining peripheral T and B cell tolerance.

Mouse Pdcd1 target molecular function (prediction)

Involved in negative regulation of immune response. Acts upstream of or within negative regulation of apoptotic process; negative regulation of tolerance induction; and positive regulation of apoptotic process. Located in external side of plasma membrane. Is expressed in retina. Used to study dilated cardiomyopathy and systemic lupus erythematosus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in autoimmune disease (multiple); hepatitis B; hepatitis C; and lupus nephritis. Orthologous to human PDCD1 (programmed cell death 1).
