  • DPP4 molecular targets review

Dipeptidyl peptidase IV (DPPIV), also known as adenosine deaminase complex protein 2 or CD26, is an antigenic enzyme expressed on the surface of most cell types and is associated with immune regulation, signal transduction and apoptosis. It is an innate membrane glycoprotein and serine exopeptidase. DPPIV plays an important role in glucose metabolism and is responsible for the degradation of incretins such as GLP-1. In addition, it can inhibit the development of cancer and tumors. Animal experiments have shown that it plays a pathogenic role in the development of fibrosis in many organs such as the liver and kidney. DPPIV plays an important role in tumor biology and is an effective marker for many cancers. Its levels are increased on the cell surface or in the serum of some tumors and decreased in others. Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus, a new coronavirus related to SARS, has been found to bind to DPPIV. DPPIV is present on the surface of cells in the airways (such as the lungs) and kidneys, and scientists use this advantage to block the virus from entering cells.

Human DPP4 target molecular function (prediction)

Enables several functions, including chemorepellent activity; peptidase activity; and protein homodimerization activity. Involved in several processes, including negative regulation of extracellular matrix disassembly; negative regulation of neutrophil chemotaxis; and regulation of cell-cell adhesion. Located in several cellular components, including apical plasma membrane; endocytic vesicle; and lamellipodium. Implicated in Middle East respiratory syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Mouse Dpp4 target molecular function (prediction)

Predicted to enable several functions, including chemorepellent activity; peptidase activity; and protein homodimerization activity. Acts upstream of or within behavioral fear response; locomotory exploration behavior; and psychomotor behavior. Located in intercellular canaliculus. Is expressed in several structures, including genotourinary system; inner ear; intraembryonic coelom; liver; and primitive heart tube. Used to study Middle East respiratory syndrome. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Middle East respiratory syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to human DPP4 (dipeptidyl peptidase 4).
