EFNA1 molecular target information overview
Overview of EFNA1 molecular targets
Ephrin-A1, also known as EFNA1, is encoded in humans by the EFNA1 gene, which encodes a member of the Eph family. Ephrins and Eph-related receptors constitute the largest subfamily of receptor tyrosine kinases and are involved in regulating the development of the nervous and hematopoietic systems. Based on their structural and sequence relationships, ephrins can be divided into ephrin-A (EFNA) and ephrin-B (EFNB) classes. Ephrin-A ligands bind to EphA receptors and are anchored to the plasma membrane via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) linkage. Ephrin-B ligands bind to EphB receptors and are anchored to the plasma membrane via a transmembrane domain. Ephrin-A1 and one of its receptors, EphA2, are expressed in xenograft endothelial cells and tumor cells and may play a role in human cancers, in part by affecting tumor neovascularization.
