  • Overview of SAA1 molecular targets

Serum amyloid A (SAA) is a family of apolipoproteins associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma. Different isoforms of SAA are constitutively expressed at different levels or in response to inflammatory stimuli (acute phase SAAs). These proteins are primarily produced by the liver. The mouse SAA gene family is located on chromosome 7. In mice, five SAA genes and four protein products have been identified, including the acute phase isoforms SAA1, SAA2, and SAA3, the constitutively expressed gene SAA5, and the pseudogene SAA4. SAAs belong to the acute phase proteins and include C-reactive protein (CRP), haptoglobin, ceruloplasmin, complement components C3 and C4, alpha 1-acid glycoprotein, alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor, and fibrinogen.

Human SAA1 target molecular function (prediction)

Enables G protein-coupled receptor binding activity. Involved in several processes, including leukocyte chemotaxis; positive regulation of cytokine production; and positive regulation of cytosolic calcium ion concentration. Located in extracellular exosome. Part of cytoplasmic microtubule.

Mouse Saa2 target molecular function (prediction)

Predicted to enable G protein-coupled receptor binding activity. Acts upstream of or within response to stilbenoid. Predicted to be located in cytoplasmic microtubule. Predicted to be part of high-density lipoprotein particle. Is expressed in liver. Orthologous to human SAA1 (serum amyloid A1).
