  • CCL17 molecular target review

Chemokine ligand (CCL17), also known as thymic activation-regulated chemokine (TARC), is a small molecular weight cytokine of the CC chemokine family. The CCL17 encoding gene is located on chromosome 16 in humans along with other chemokines CCL22 and CX3CL1. CCL17 is constitutively expressed in the thymus and transiently expressed in peripheral blood mononuclear cells stimulated by phytohemagglutinin (PHA). The chemokine specifically binds to T cells and exhibits its chemotactic effect by binding to the chemokine receptor CCR4.

Human CCL17 target molecular function (prediction)

Predicted to enable CCR chemokine receptor binding activity and chemokine activity. Involved in antimicrobial humoral immune response mediated by antimicrobial peptide and killing of cells of other organism. Predicted to be located in extracellular region. Predicted to be active in extracellular space. Biomarker of several diseases, including allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis; cystic fibrosis; lung disease (multiple); pulmonary eosinophilia; syncytial virus infectious disease.
