TNFSF12 molecular target information overview

  • Molecular name: TNFSF12, TNF superfamily member 12
  • Gene family: Tumor necrosis factor superfamily
  • Alias: TWEAK; DR3LG; APO3L
  • Alias: tumor necrosis factor (ligand) superfamily, member 12

  • Overview of TNFSF12 molecular targets

Tumor necrosis factor-like weak inducer of apoptosis (TWEAK) was discovered in 1997. The protein encoded by the TWEAK gene is a cytokine in the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) ligand family. Leukocytes (including human resting and activated monocytes, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells) are the main source of TWEAK. Depending on the cell type, TWEAK can induce apoptosis through multiple pathways and can also promote the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells, thereby regulating angiogenesis. In chronic injuries, overactivated TWEAK pathways can promote pathological tissue changes, including chronic inflammation, fibrosis, and angiogenesis.
