CCL4 molecular target information overview
Overview of CCL4 molecular targets
Chemokine ligand 4 (CCL4), also known as macrophage inflammatory protein 1β (MIP-1β), is a CC chemokine specific for the CCR5 receptor. It can chemotactic natural killer cells, monocytes and other immune cells, and can be induced by many cell types in mice, including mast cells, endothelial cells, macrophages and CD8+T cells. Mouse CCL4 cDNAs encode a 92 amino acid residue precursor protein with a 23 amino acid residue signal peptide, which can be cleaved to produce a 69 amino acid residue secretory mature protein. CCL4 is an important HIV inhibitory factor produced by CD8+T cells. The activity of chemokines is regulated by G protein-coupled 7-transmembrane domain receptors, CCR1, 5 and 8, which can regulate the biological activity of CCL4. In the same cell population, the activity of CCL4 is 20 times weaker than that of CCL3.

Involved in several processes, including negative regulation by host of viral transcription; positive regulation of calcium-mediated signaling; and positive regulation of natural killer cell chemotaxis. Predicted to be located in extracellular region. Predicted to be active in extracellular space. Implicated in acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Biomarker of several diseases, including Plasmodium falciparum malaria; autoimmune disease (multiple); cystic fibrosis; lung disease (multiple); and nose disease (multiple).
