Overview of FLT4 molecular targets
Vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 3 (VEGF R3), also known as Flt-4, is a tyrosine kinase receptor for VEGF-C and VEGF-D. This protein is involved in the generation and maintenance of lymphangiogenesis in the lymphatic endothelium. High expression of VEGF R3 can be found in lymphatic endothelial cells isolated from cancer tissues of lymphoma patients. Mutations in the VEGF R3 gene cause hereditary lymphedema type IA. Some studies have shown that the expression of VEGF-C, VEGF-D, and VEGF R3 is positively correlated with vascular invasion, lymphatic vessel and lymph node involvement. The VEGF-C/VEGF-D/VEGFR3 signaling pathway may provide a target for anti-lymphangiogenesis therapy for prostate cancer, breast cancer, gastric cancer, lung cancer, non-small cell lung cancer, etc.
