CSF2 molecular target information overview
Overview of CSF2 molecular targets
Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) is a cytokine that regulates the growth of leukocytes. GM-CSF stimulates stem cells to produce granulocytes (neutrophils, eosinophils, and basophils) and monocytes. In addition, it is active on cells of both hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic lineages. GM-CSF is used as a drug to stimulate the production of leukocytes to prevent neutropenia caused by chemotherapy. Recently, clinical trials are evaluating GM-CSF as a potential vaccine adjuvant for HIV-infected patients. Related studies have reported that patients with some cancers (including lung cancer and acute myeloid leukemia) have higher levels of GM-CSF in the serum, as well as in peripheral blood and squamous extracts of patients with bronchial asthma.

Human CSF2 target molecular function (prediction)
Enables cytokine activity. Involved in several processes, including cellular response to granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor stimulus; myeloid leukocyte differentiation; and positive regulation of macromolecule metabolic process. Located in extracellular space and intracellular membrane-bounded organelle. Implicated in acute myeloid leukemia; juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia; neutropenia; pulmonary alveolar proteinosis; and visceral leishmaniasis. Biomarker of COVID-19; asthma; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; and temporal arteritis.
