  • CD38 molecular target review

CD38 is a membrane-localized glycoprotein that catalyzes the synthesis and degradation of cyclic adenosine diphosphate ribose and participates in cell adhesion and signal transduction. CD31 is the ligand of CD38. When the two bind, they can cause apoptosis of bone marrow B cells, but can prevent apoptosis of tonsil B cells and promote proliferation of spleen B cells. Normally expressed in thymocytes, early B and T cells, germinal center B cells, some T cells, etc. Abnormally expressed in myeloma cells, primary effusion lymphoma, and some chronic lymphocytic leukemias.
