Background

Carbamoyl phosphate synthetase-aspartate carbamoyltransferase-dihydroorotase (CAD) is a multifunctional protein that initiates and regulates mammalian de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis. This protein is a 'fusion' protein encoding four enzymatic activities of the pyrimidine pathway (GATase, CPSase, ATCase and DHOase).
