Growth Factor Binding Protein(GFBP)

Growth Factor Binding Proteins (GFBPs) are a class of proteins with crucial regulatory functions, widely distributed in the extracellular matrix, blood, and intracellular environment. Their core role is to specifically bind to various growth factors such as Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF), and Fibroblast Growth Factors (FGFs). By regulating the activity, transport, storage, and signal transduction efficiency of growth factors, GFBPs control key biological processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. In physiological processes, GFBPs are important regulators of embryonic development, tissue repair, and wound healing, accelerating tissue remodeling by promoting growth factor signaling. Pathologically, abnormal expression of certain GFBPs is closely associated with tumor initiation, progression, and metastasis. Due to their regulatory mechanisms, GFBPs have emerged as potential drug targets for tumors, inflammatory diseases, and other conditions, with inhibitors showing promising prospects in specifically inhibiting the growth of pathological cells. Common subtypes include the Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Proteins (IGFBPs) family, which consists of six homologous proteins. These proteins regulate their own functions through post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and proteolysis, further expanding the regulatory network of GFBPs.
