  • Overview of MMP8 molecular targets

Matrix metalloproteinase 8 (MMP-8), also known as neutrophil collagenase or PMNL collagenase, is a collagenase present in the connective tissue of most mammals. The MMP-8 protein in humans is encoded by the MMP8 gene. Various substances, such as IL-1, IL-8, TNF-α and GM-CSF, can stimulate neutrophils to release MMP-8, which is a key enzyme that initiates ECM degradation. Activated MMP-8 can cleave natural proteins such as fibronectin, cartilage proteoglycans, serpins and peptides. MMP-8 affects the metastatic behavior of breast cancer cells by preventing lymph node metastasis, emphasizing the importance of anti-target identification in drug development. MMP-8 participates in wound repair by eliminating inflammation, providing certain possibilities for the development of new strategies for treating poor wound healing.
