Overview of LAYN molecular target information
Overview of LAYN molecular targets
Layilin (LAYN), a 55 kDa transmembrane protein homologous to C-type lectins, is present in many cell lines and tissue extracts. LAYN specifically binds to hyaluronic acid, an extracellular matrix component ubiquitous in most animal tissues and body fluids, but not other mucopolysaccharides tested, through its extracellular domain. Studies have shown that LAYN may mediate extracellular matrix-to-cytoskeleton signals through interactions with different intracellular binding elements, thereby participating in the modulation of cell cortical architecture. LAYN plays a role in many cellular processes, including cell morphology, adhesion, motility, homeostasis, and signal transduction. In addition, LAYN may play an important role in the invasion and lymphatic metastasis of lung cancer.
