IL11 molecular target information overview
Overview of IL11 molecular targets
Interleukin 11 (IL-11) is a multifunctional cytokine that was isolated from bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells as early as 1990. It is a member of the IL-6 family of cytokines, which can be distinguished by their use of the co-receptor gp130. IL-11 plays an important regulatory role in the regulation of hematopoiesis, especially stimulating the maturation of megakaryocytes. Studies have shown that IL-11 can improve chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia, induce acute phase proteins, regulate antigen-antibody responses, and participate in the regulation of osteoblast proliferation and differentiation. IL-11 causes bone resorption and can also stimulate the growth of certain lymphocytes. In mouse models, it stimulates the increase in the thickness and strength of the long bone cortex. As a signaling molecule, IL-11 has multiple functions, including placentation and to some extent decidualization, and has a certain role in the process of blastocyst implantation into the endometrium. IL-11 is synthesized using recombinant DNA technology and is commercially known as Oprelukin, which is used to prevent and treat severe thrombocytopenia in cancer patients.
