BMP6 molecular target information overview
Overview of BMP6 molecular targets
Bone morphogenetic protein 6 (BMP-6), encoded by the BMP6 gene, is a member of the TGF-β superfamily. BMPs can induce the growth of bone and cartilage. BMP-6 can induce all osteoblast markers in mesenchymal stem cells. Another function of BMP-6 was described in the journal Nature Genetics in 2009. It is a key regulator of hepcidin, a small peptide secreted by the liver, the main regulator of mammalian iron metabolism.
