IGFBP4 molecular target information overview
Review of IGFBP4 molecular targets
Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 4 (IGFBP4) is a 24 kDa protein that binds insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) I and II and circulates in plasma in glycosylated and non-glycosylated forms. This binding prolongs the half-life of IGFs and alters their interaction with cell surface receptors. The IGF-binding protein superfamily includes six high-affinity IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs), as well as at least four lower-affinity binding proteins called IGFBP-related proteins (IGFBP-RPs). IGFBP-4 inhibits the action of IGF-I in vitro and is the most abundant IGF binding protein in the rodent arterial wall. In non-transgenic littermates, IGFBP4 mRNA expression is highest in the liver and kidney.
