  • Overview of GZMB molecular targets

Granzyme B is a serine protease most commonly found in the granules of cytotoxic lymphocytes (CTLs) and natural killer cells (NK cells). Granzyme B secreted by these cells works together with perforin to mediate apoptosis of target cells. Recently, it has been discovered that many non-cytotoxic cells, from basophils, mast cells to smooth muscle cells, can also produce Granzyme B. Granzyme B participates in inducing inflammation by stimulating the release of cytokines and is also involved in extracellular matrix remodeling. Elevated Granzyme B levels are associated with many autoimmune diseases, some skin diseases, and type 1 diabetes.
