IL9 molecular target information overview
Overview of IL9 molecular targets
Interleukin 9 (IL-9) is a glycosylated protein with a molecular weight of 14 kDa, containing 10 cysteine residues that participate in disulfide bonds. It is a cytokine produced by T cells, especially CD4+ helper cells, and can regulate a variety of hematopoietic cells. This cytokine stimulates cell proliferation and prevents cell apoptosis. It works by binding to the IL-9 receptor and can activate different signal transduction and activation (STAT) proteins, thereby participating in a variety of biological processes. The gene encoding this cytokine has been identified as a candidate gene for asthma. Genetic studies of asthma in mouse models have shown that this cytokine is a determining factor in the pathogenesis of bronchial hyperresponsiveness. The existence of an IL-9-mediated autocrine loop suggests the presence of some malignancies such as Hodgkin's disease. IL-9 is expressed by Reed-Sternberg cells, Hodgkin lymphoma cells, and some large aplastic lymphoma cells, but not by non-Hodgkin lymphomas and peripheral T-cell lymphomas.

Human IL9 target molecular function (prediction)
Predicted to enable cytokine activity and interleukin-9 receptor binding activity. Predicted to be involved in positive regulation of interleukin-5 production. Predicted to act upstream of or within several processes, including B cell activation; regulation of cellular protein metabolic process; and regulation of receptor signaling pathway via JAK-STAT. Predicted to be located in extracellular region. Predicted to be active in extracellular space. Implicated in asthma and respiratory syncytial virus infectious disease. Biomarker of COVID-19; asthma; cystic fibrosis; lung disease (multiple); and rhinitis.
