IL22 molecular target information overview
Overview of IL22 molecular targets
Interleukin 22 (IL-22) is a member of the IL-10 family or IL-10 superfamily (including IL-19, IL-20, IL-24 and IL-26) of cytokines and is a class of effective regulators of cellular inflammatory responses. It and other members of this family, IL-10, IL-26, IL-28A/B and IL-29, use IL-10R2 together in cell signaling. IL-22 is produced by activated DCs and T cells to initiate innate immune responses against pathogens, especially those derived from epithelial cells such as respiratory and intestinal epithelial cells. Psoriasis patients show strongly elevated IL-22 levels in the plasma, which is associated with the severity of the disease. In T cell-mediated hepatitis induced by concanavalin A (ConA), IL-22 can play a protective role as a survival factor for hepatocytes. In contrast to IFN-γ and IL-17, a large amount of IL-22 is present in the blood of Crohn's disease patients.
