IL7 molecular target information overview

  • Molecular name: IL7, interleukin 7
  • Gene family: Interleukins
  • Alias: IL-7

  • Overview of IL7 molecular targets

Interleukin 7 (IL-7) is a hematopoietic growth factor secreted by bone marrow and thymic stromal cells. It can also be produced by keratinocytes, dendritic cells, hepatocytes, neurons and epithelial cells, but normal lymphocytes cannot produce IL-7. IL-7 stimulates the differentiation of multipotent hematopoietic stem cells into lymphoid progenitor cells, and also stimulates the proliferation of all lymphoid cells (B cells, T cells and NK cells). IL-7 promotes the development of malignant hematological diseases (acute lymphoblastic leukemia, T-cell lymphoma). Elevated IL-7 levels have been detected in the plasma of HIV-infected patients. IL-7 can also improve immune recovery after allogeneic stem cell transplantation.

Human IL7 target molecular function (prediction)

Enables cytokine activity. Involved in cytokine-mediated signaling pathway; positive regulation of chemokine production; and positive regulation of cytokine-mediated signaling pathway. Located in extracellular region. Part of collagen-containing extracellular matrix. Implicated in epidermodysplasia verruciformis. Biomarker of Alzheimer's disease and COVID-19.

Mouse Il7 target molecular function (prediction)

Enables cytokine activity and growth factor activity. Acts upstream of or within several processes, including negative regulation of extrinsic apoptotic signaling pathway in absence of ligand; positive regulation of lymphocyte activation; and tissue homeostasis. Located in extracellular space. Is expressed in several structures, including brain; branchial arch; hemolymphoid system; intestine; and lymphatic system. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in epidermodysplasia verruciformis. Orthologous to human IL7 (interleukin 7).
